WILLIAM HOOTMAN was born Dec. 25th, 1818 and died Dec. 9th, 1892. Had he lived to Christmas day he wo'd [sic] have been 74 years of age.
His native place was Carroll county, Ohio. He came to this county when a youth, and has resided here ever since. In 1846 he was married to Miss Margaret Nelson, a most excellent help-meet and companion, who died in 1878. To them were born ten children--seven sons and three daughters--all but two of whom survive, [sic] As a citizen and neighbor Mr. Hootman was quiet, inoffensive, and always ready to oblige. He leaves perhaps not a single enemy. As a husband and father he was a model; very affectionate and considerate of the wants of others. Sociaily [sic], he was full of life and en [at this point of the obituary, the left side is gone, making the first word or so of each line missing] the society of his friends. He [was a?] member of the U. P. church [he joined as?] a young man, and in the home, [ ? ] [fa?]mily religion, in the observance [of the] Sabbath, and in attendance [ ? ] the church ordinances he was a [ ? ]ful servant of the Master. He [was a?] man of powerful physical condition, but the strong as well as [the] weak must at last yield. His [ ? ] is done and we have good reason [to be]lieve has gone to his reward. [May] his mantle rest on those he leaves [behin]d.
