AUSTIN SYLVESTER CROWN
Died Jan. 27th at his home in Farmington from a long and distressing illness brought on by an abscess [sic] in his side, for which he had to undergo a surgical operation some years ago. The wound thus made never fully healed and later became a runing [sic] sore.
Though he had the best treatment that medical skill could supply, yet it persisted in saping [sic] his vitality and life force until death came to his relief. He was born three miles west of Farmington, Oct. 9th 1851. Was married to Luella Wescott Feb. 25th 1875, to them were born four children, Mrs. Nellie Slee, Mrs. Sadie Slee, Lester and Fred Crown; who survive them.
The wife and mother died Jan. [10 or 16], 1892 at the age of 41 and left to the father the care of four children; a charge that he tried faithfully to perform. He was industrious and continued his labor at filling the coal schutes [sic] for the C.B. & K.C. railroad long after his affliction was so severe that every motion produced keen pain and his side was a source of constant suffering. He was the youngest of a family of six brothers and six sisters, five of whom survive, Solomon, Julia, (Locke) Joseph, John and Samantha. He was converted at a revival held several years ago by Rev. Shepard by whom he was baptized united with the Baptist Church.
Funeral at the home of Millard Slee, Tuesday Jan. 29, 2 p m, Elder James MciKernan [sic] in charge.
