In 1865 he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Coulter, an estimable lady of Washington county. To them was born three sons, all grown to manhood, and are left with his wife to mourn his departure.

As a citizen and neighbor, Mr. Nelson was quiet, accommodating and ready to oblige. As a husband and father he was a model, affectionate, kind and considerate of the wants of others. Socially he was full of life and enjoyed the society of his friends. He was an active member of the United Presbyterian church since a young man, and for the past thirty years was a ruling elder in that organization, and was extremely liberal for the advancement of its cause. In family religion, in observance of the Sabbath, and attendance on church ordinances he was a faithful servant of the Master. Physically he was a man of good constitution, having had but little sickness during his life-time.

His work is done. In obedience to his Master's call, he bide adieu to earth and has gone to receive his reward. May his mantle rest on those he leaves behind.
