Obituary
JAMES RAYMOND AUSTIN

James Raymond Austin was born near Oxford in Johnson County, Iowa on December 9, 1908 and departed this life January 15, 1981 in the Iowa Methodist Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

The family moved to Van Buren County, Iowa in March 1911 where he attended country school and Keosauqua High School, graduating with the class of 1926. After completing a business course he was employed in the Louden Machinery Company before going to Ames and enrolling in Iowa State College. After graduation he worked for the State of Iowa, then for the United States Government in Omaha. He then furthered his education by getting a masters degree in accounting and a degree in law. He practiced a short time in New York City before returning to Des Moines where he continued his chosen profession till very recently when ill health forced him to curtail his activities.

He was married to Martha Hennesey of Sioux City, Iowa October 2, 1937. To this union two children were born. A daughter, Janet, who now lived in Alexandria, Va., and a son James who has been associated with his father in their law firm.

Surviving are his wife Martha, daughter Janet, son James and his wife Carol and their son, James Ryan. Also two brothers, Reuben of Keosauqua, Kenneth of Des Moines; five sisters, Florence Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, Mabel Forbes and Mary Morrison, both of Fairfield, Iowa, Orpha Morgan of Florence, Arizona and Beulah Beck of Bettendorf, Ia. Also surviving are four nieces and eight nephews. One nephew is deceased.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Des Moines with burial in Glendale Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were arranged by Dunns Funeral Home.
