Motorcycle Accident Claims Life Of Keosauqua Teen

Terry V. Wells, 14, of Keosauqua died about 6 p.m. Friday of injuries sustained two hours earlier when a motorcycle he was riding ran into a stopped Van Buren Community School bus. The accident occurred near the Luvene Heald home at the edge of Keosauqua at about 3:50 p.m.

Terry was taken from Ban Buren County Memorial Hospital at Keosauqua Air Care helicopter to Iowa City but was pronounced dead on arrival.

He was born to Gene and Bonnie McFarland Wells, Nov. 1, 1966 in Keokuk. He moved with his family to Keosauqua in 1977 and was a freshman at Van Buren Community School were he played football, golf, basketball and baseball. He was a member of Volume II chorus and Spanish Club. He attended the Keosauqua Christian Church and was a member of its youth group and the Hawkeye Hustlers 4-H Club.

He is survived by his parents; a sister Jan; grandparents Mary Wells of Hamilton, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Jack Akers of Warsaw, Ill.

The funeral was held Monday in the high school gymnasium at Keosauqua, and classes were dismissed for the day in Terry's memory. His father is art instructor for the school and also is Van Buren County ambulance service director for Memorial Hospital.

Burial was in Purdom Cemetery with Pedrick Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to the Van Buren Community School athletic department.
