HAROLD L. STUMP

Harold L. Stump, son of Elmer and Emma Carl Stump, was born August 20, 1897, near Libertyville, and departed this life Thursday April 23, 1981, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 83.

On November 21, 1917, he married Esther Ferrel at Ottumwa. They lived most of their married life in the Douds community.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, two daughters Wilma Loomis and her husband Stanley of Fairfield and Weltha Doud and her husband Carl of Ottumwa, two grandchildren, Richard Loomis of Bettendorf and Shirley Weber of Fairfield, five great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Orin Cobler of Ottumwa, other relatives and many friends. A brother, Floyd, preceded him in death.

In addition to farming, Pete as he was known to his friends, was employed many years by the Van Buren County Highway Department and following retirement from the county worked part time at Barker Mercantile in Douds for several years.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a good neighbor and friend.

Funeral services were held Saturday April 25, 1981, at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with Dr. Chris Daniel officiating. Pallbearers were Paul Lambert, Bruce Blackburn, Forrest Hanshaw, Henry Nichols, Jack Boyer, and Darrell Weller. Interment was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery north of Douds. A memorial was established.
