HELEN E. SMITH

Services for Helen E. Smith, 702 west Broadway in Fairfield, former Birmingham area and Cantril resident were held Sunday afternoon, March 8, at the Fairfield First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Robert Kelly officiating. Burial was in the Miller Chapel Cemetery southwest of Stockport. Behner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died at 1:30 a.m. March 5, 1981 at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. She had been in failing health for a number of years.

Helen E. Smith, 70, was born February 23, 1911 in Wapello County, the daughter of Charles L. and Ada Lewis Benge. She was married to Loren L. Smith, January 30, 1930, who survives.

She lived in the Fairfield community for over 50 years and was a member of the Nazarene Church. Her late father operated the Benge Coal and Ice Co. in Fairfield.

Survivors include her husband, three children, Kenneth Smith of Crystal, Minn., Florence Hostetter and Ruth Canaday, Fairfield. She was is also survived by ten grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Clyde.
