MARJORIE I. SMITH

Marjorie I. Smith, daughter of Elmer and Edna Mort Wilson, was born February 18, 1912, near Lebanon and departed this life Sunday March 29, 1981, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 69. On February 10, 1934, she married Lloyd C. Smith. They lived in Cantril where they operated a service station and later a grocery store. Mr. Smith died May 29, 1978. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant grandson.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shirley Charbonneau of Keosauqua and son-in-law James Charbonneau, a granddaughter, Brenda Charbonneau of Des Moines, a grandson, Ray Charbonneau and his wife Nancy, two great grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Charbonneau, a sister, Louise Beer and her husband Stanley, all of Keosauqua, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Smith was a long time active member of the Cantril United Methodist Church and its United Methodist women, and took part in numerous other community activities over the years.

She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother always thinking of others before herself. She will be greatly missed by her family and a host friends. The feeling of her loved ones is somewhat expressed in this quotation': "Death is not an extinguishing of the light, but a blowing out of the lamp because dawn has come."

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31, 1981, at 2 p.m. at the Cantril United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Edward Kail, pastor officiating. Mrs. Merle McDonald was the organist. Pallbearers were Bennie Powell, Lloyd Jamison, Wesley Pierce, Edgar Koch, Jerry Smith and Wilbur Martin, Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril. A memorial was established for her church. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
