BONNIE L. SWAILES

Bonnie L. Swailes, daughter of John and Martha Burgess Sammons, was born September 25, 1895, near Rome, Iowa and departed this life Tuesday, January 13, 1981, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 85.

Her early life was spent in the Rome community. In 1920 she married George Swailes. They lived in Henry County until moving to Keosauqua in 1929, where he served as the County Bridge Foreman and County Sheriff. Mr. Swailes died in 1958. A grandson, a brother, and three sisters also preceded her in death.

Remaining to cherish her memory are two sons, Harold of Belle Plaine and Walter of Wheaton, Illinois; four daughters, Esther Hotchkiss, Laguna Beach, California; Agnes Hulen, Fairfield; Martha Heritage of Davenport; and Evelyn Brannan, Keosauqua; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Ralph and Harry Sammons, both of Rome, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thrusday, January 15, 1981, at 10 A.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Louise Knupp officiating. Interment was in Grant Cemetery near Rome.
