Asa Zeitler

Asa D. Zeitler, son of James H. and Ella L. Brooks Zeitler, was born March 5, 1896 in Van Buren County, Iowa and died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1986 at his home southwest of Douds at the age of 90.

He married Ruby I. Buckles July 5, 1919 at Fairfield, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Keosauqua High (school) and taught in several rural schools. They lived their married life on the same farm in Van Buren County. He was a member of the Bethel Free Methodist Church of rural Douds and was a World War I veteran and a member of the American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494 at Douds.

Mrs. Zeitler preceded him in death in 1982, also preceding was an infant daughter Vonda, one granddaughter, three brothers: George, J.E., and Rowe, and one sister, Sarah.

Remaining are two sons, Donald of Douds and Charles of Bennett, Colorado, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ada Lazenby of Keosauqua and Clara Law of Troy, other relatives.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1986 at the Bethel Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Interment Troy Cemetery, Troy, Iowa. Memorials may be sent to the Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, Iowa.
