ZEITLER, BROOKS, CALLIES, LAVETTE, LAW, LAZENBY

GEORGE W. ZEITLER

George W. Zeitler, son of James H. and Ella (Brooks) Zeitler, was born in Ida Grove, Iowa, September 22, 1891, and passed away at the Minot Hospital in Minot, North Dakota at the age of 89 years. As a small child, George moved with his folks to Van Buren County on a farm near Douds, where he grew to manhood. As a young man he went to North Dakota and went to work with the Great Northern as a surveyor; later becoming an engineer on the railroad, and served in this capacity until his retirement in 1961.

He was united in marriage on August 12, 1945 to Agnes Callies of Minot.

He was a member of the United Transportation Union, Burlington Northern Veterans Association, and served for 20 years as local chairman of the Brotherhood of Local Fireman and Engineers. George was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, and was Past Noble Grand and a retired Colonel Patriotic Militant of the Lodge.

Surviving him are his wife, George Zeitler Jr., stepsons, Reuben Callies, all of Minot, Bernard Callies of Detroit and a stepdaughter, Videll (Callies) Lavette of Carmichiel, Calif., ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, one brother, Asa Zeitler of Douds, Iowa, two sisters, Clara Law of Bloomfield and Ada (Zeitler) Lazenby of Keosauqua and several nieces and nephews, also a host of friends.
