HAROLD ZEITLER

Harold E. Zeitler, 80, of Route 1, Douds, died at 8:25 P.M. Monday, June 9, 1997 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

He was born March 23, 1917 near Douds to J. Edwin and Marie Casady Zeitler. He married Irma Saylor May 30, 1939 in Milton. She died June 7, 1986.

He married Freda Riggs Parsons Sept. 19, 1992 in their new home near Douds.

He farmed in the Douds, Troy and Milton communities, was a self-employed carpenter, and worked at Bloomfield Lumber Co. and Everco Industries in Ottumwa.

He was a Past Noble Grand of the former Troy Odd Fellows Lodge, and a member of Troy Rebekah Lodge No. 410 and Troy Academy Historical Society.

Surviving are his wife, a son, Larry and his wife, Wanda of Geneseo, IL, a daughter, Beverly Cooley and her husband, Marty of Washington, IA, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 step daughters, Judy Fellows and her husband, Ted and Janice Johnston and her husband, Carroll, all of Douds, a step-son, Donald Parsons and his wife, Ricci of Sioux Falls, SD, 10 step-grandchildren, 11 step great-grandchildren, a sister, Cleone Wells and a brother, James Zeitler and his wife, Norma, all of Douds, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Hollis Wells.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday, June 13, 1997 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Burial will be in Troy Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with family present 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to Douds Youth Baseball Program or Valley School Restoration Fund may be left at the funeral home.
