OBITUARY OF GEORGE W. CARNES
George W. Carnes was born September 24, 1852, in Iowa. He was married to Martha Jane Barnett of Upton, Iowa, in 1870. To this union nine children were born, one departing this life in infancy. Mr. Carnes was called from this life, after a lingering illness, at 3 o'clock Thursday, March 20. He is survived by his wife, 5 sons and 3 daughters, as follows: Mrs. A. M. Houk of Des Moines, Iowa; John Hopkins Carnes of DeWitt, Ark.; George A. Carnes of Winthrop, Minn.; William H. Carnes of DeWitt, Ark.; James A. Carnes of Duncan, Okla.; Mrs. Maude Lear of LaMoille, Ariz.; Mrs. Bertha Rucks of Warren, Ark.; Grover C. Carnes of DeWitt, Ark. The deceased made a profession of his faith in Christ, May 15, 1915, uniting with the Christian church, of which he was a loyal and devoted member through these closing years of his life. In 1897 he and his family moved to Arkansas county, Arkansas; for a number of years was farming, but in recent years has been living in deWitt. The deceased was a brother of A. Carnes and a brother-in-law of W. H. Barnett, both of Cantril, Iowa. Funeral and burial were held at Prairie View, Mo., Monday p. m., March 24, conducted by Rev. Warren at Cantril, Iowa.
