Bertha Alice Miller

Bertha Alice Miller, age 80 years, 11 months and 17 days died Monday, December 19, 1977, in the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital at Kirksville, Missouri.

She was born January 2, 1897, in Jackson Township, Van Buren County, Iowa, to James W. and Alice Eich Miller and had lived on the home place all of her life.

In 1923 her sister-in-law, Eva Bell Miller, died and she made a home for her brother, Jacob Eich Miller and his family of three girls and one boy. She was a mother, as well as Aunt Bertha, to three nieces and one nephew, Helen, Mary, Alice and Charles.

Bertha was preceded in death by two brothers, Jacob Eich Miller of Cantril, Iowa, and Charles G. Miller of Des Moines, Iowa, one sister, Agnes Lindsay of Milton, Iowa, and two nieces, Alice Miller and Maxine Lindsay Kuntz. Her brother, J. Eich Miller, died November 9, 1957, and she continued to make a home for Charles until her illness.

She is survived by six nieces, Helen Grant of Canton, Mo., Mary Beggs of Sigourney, Iowa, Julia Beard of Fresno, Calif., Betty Hurley of Ottumwa, Iowa, Charlotte Cathel of Des Moines, Iowa, and Shirley Welch of Los Altos, Calif, and one nephew, Charles Miller, of Cantril, Iowa.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Graveside services were held Thursday, December 22, 1977, with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Pall bearers were Fred Tisdale, Doran Tisdale, Bob Holsapple, Ernest Birchmier, Richard Koellner and Walter Kaiser. Burial was in the Sunnyside Cemetery of Milton, Iowa. The Wellborn Funeral Home of Milton was in charge of funeral arrangements.
