Leon, former mayor, dies

H. Ford Leon, 77, former Bloomfield mayor and businessman, died Friday at his home.

He was born March 9, 1906 in Davis County to James Harvey and Lena Ford Leon. He was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and the former owner of Leon Hardware and Plumbing and Heating.

He served several terms as Bloomfield Mayor and was a former city council member.

He was a 1928 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was later employed at the Davis County Hospital.

On June 25, 1928, he married Hazle, Kratzer. She died June 6, 1979.

Survivors include his mother, Lena Haney of Bloomfield; a daughter, Sandra Huffman of Bloomfield; a son, Harvey Ford (Bud) Leon Jr. of Bloomfield; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Martin of Bloomfield.

The body was cremated. The Priester Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the Davis County Hospital.
