DAVID BURNS LAZENBY

David Burns Lazenby, son of Albert and Anna Starr Lazenby, was born April 26, 1906 near Hastings, Neb., and died early Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1983, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 77.

When he was a child, the family moved to Keosauqua, where he had since resided. On Sept. 23, 1933 he married Ada D. Zeitler of rural Douds in Fairfield. She remains with their two daughters, Juanita Strait and her husband Stanley of Keosauqua and Mary Ann Copeland and her husband Larry of Libertyville, seven grandchildren Debra, Dawn Ve, DiAnna, and Dena Dorothea Strait and Douglas and Alysia Copeland. Also surviving are a sister, Ve Blackburn of Phoenix, Arizona, other relatives and many friends. A brother, Charles and a sister, Kathryn Griffiths preceded him in death.

Dave farmed early in life, was superintendent of streets and utilities in Keosauqua for a number of years and was a self-employed realtor until his retirement. He served as Justice of the Peace for several years and continued as a Notary Public, and secretary of the Fellows Cemetery Association. He was a lifetime member of the Keosauqua Christian Church, a Past Chancellor of Starlight Lodge No. 350, Knights of Pythias at Douds and a member of Douds Temple No. 104, Pythian Sisters, Keosauqua Lions Club, Izaak Walton League, and the Knights of Khorassan and Nomads of Abrudaka in Ottumwa.

He was active in the Van Buren County Historical Society and frequently conducted tours of local historic sites for school children and other groups.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a good citizen and friend who did what he could to make his community a better place, through many and varied activities.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 5, 1983, at 11 a.m. in the Keosauqua Christian Church, with Pastor Bob Patterson officiating. Interment was in Fellows Cemetery. Memorials may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
