William Lawrence Koontz

William Lawrence Koontz, age 79, passed away September 22, 1985, at Veterans Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, following heart surgery.

He was born March 10, 1906, to R.M. Koontz and Mary Snider Koontz in Packwood, Iowa.

Lawrence was married to Eleanor Schuck on August 14, 1943, at Medford, Oregon. One son, George, was born of this marriage.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his son, George, daughter-in-law, Diana and their three children, Lori, Robert, and Kevin, and one sister, Leta, a resident of the Scotland Nursing Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John, and sister, Inez.

Lawrence moved with his parents to Scotland County at the age of 14. He was active in the North Liberty Community where he served on the School Board a number of years. Lawrence was a member of the Memphis Presbyterian Church. He entered the United States Army on November 11, 1942, and was awarded three Bronze Stars while serving with the 363rd, Infantry during the European African and Middle Eastern Theatre Campaigns. He received his honorable discharge on October 6, 1945 and returned to farming.

Lawrence had been in failing health for several years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Services were held Wednesday, September 25, 1985, at 11 a.m. from the Payne-Gerth Funeral Chapel, Memphis. The Rev. Clifford Horton officiated. The music was provided by Ann Luther and Rev. Horton.
