Bertha N. Kittle

Bertha Nell Kittle, daughter of Matison and Emma Pauly Boyer, was born April 26, 1890, in Scotland County, Mo., and died the evening of Friday, June 8, 1984 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua, at the age of 94.

On April 14, 1912 she married John Kittle. He died in 1962. Also preceeding her in death were a daughter, Flossie Balmer, a son-in-law, Harry Balmer, and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Kittle, and a great-grandson, Eric McDowell. Remaining are a son, Raymond Kittle of Detroit, Michigan; a daughter, Elsie Hay and her husband Bill of Downing, Mo., three grandchildren, Lloyd Balmer and his wife, Carolyn of Keosauqua, Helen Davidson and her husband, Charles of Cantril, and Judy Brown and her husband, Rodney of Bloomington, Ill. Also surviving are six great grandchildren, Kelly and Chris Balmer, John Stutzman, Brenda McDowell, and Cindy and Tammy Davidson; a great-great granddaughter, Erica McDowell, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Kittle accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 12 and was a life-long member of the Providence Baptist Church in rural Scotland County.

She lived her entire life in the county, on the same farm from 1915 until failing health caused her to move into the home of her daughter and son-in-law in 1980. She was active in the work of the farm until well up into her eighties.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 11, 1984 at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with (ev.) Gerald Caughron of Cantril officiating. Interment was in Providence Cemetery between Cantril and Arbela, Mo. A memorial was established.
