SIDNEY JOHNSTON

Sidney F. Johnston, 73, of Packwood died March 18 at 8 a.m. in University Hospitals, Iowa City.

He was born January 15, 1907, in Milton to Craig and Elizabeth Koonts Johnston. He was raised and educated in Milton, Lebanon and Keosauqua areas and graduated from Keosauqua High School. He married Ruth McAfee August 8, 1928, in Burlington. They lived in Brighton and Mt. Pleasant before moving to Packwood in 1941. He was an Army veteran and a retired farmer and had been an agent for Jefferson County Mutual Insurance Co. for 27 years.

He is survived by his wife; daughters Wanda Cox of Fairfield, Beverly Westendorf of Davenport, Doris Aller of Noblesville, Ind. and Faye Davis of Hedrick; sons Melvin and Leon of Packwood; 22 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; sisters Pauline Scott of Whittier, Calif., Beryl Leach of Memphis, Mo., Kathryn Hansen of Burlington and Patty ray of Schertz, Texas; and brothers, Robert of Kansas City, Kan., Clark of Fairfield and Hayes of Kansas City, Mo.

Services were held Friday, March 21, 1980 at 1:30 p.m. at Packwood Methodist Church, the Rev. Donald Harbour and Mr. Dean Carey officiating. Burial was in Packwood Cemetery.
