Winona A. Johnston

Winona A. Johnston, 59, daughter of Linn and Nellie Mechem Beatty, was born October 2, 1926 at Mt. Zion, Iowa and died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1986 at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1944 and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant. She taught in several rural schools in Van Buren County. She had a great interest in horses, showing and riding in many events.

On March 5, 1948, she married Paul E. Johnston at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in Van Buren County.

Surviving are her husband, Paul; one son Kenneth of Keosauqua; one daughter nadine Miller and her husband Denis of Keosauqua; three grandchildren, Brent, Laurie and Mark Miller; and two sisters, Shirley Craig of Milton and Eleanor Strait of Keosauqua. A brother Harlyn preceded her in death.

She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church and the UMW organization.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 3, at Lebanon United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Daniel and Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home. Interment at Lebanon Cemetery. A memorial was established for the church and Cancer Fund.
