Opal Severs Jones

Mrs. Opal Severs Jones, 80, died August 20, 1977, at the Davis County Hospital. She had been ill for the past several months and lived at 211 West Second St. in Moulton, Iowa.

Born July 31, 1897, near Moulton, Iowa, to John F. and Ida Gale Severs, she married Glen M. Severs July 17, 1917. As a youth she attended rural schools of Appanoose County, Iowa, graduated from the Moulton Public High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, as a music major.

Following their marriage, the couple farmed for more than 50 years in Appanoose, Davis and Van Buren Counties, Iowa. A lifelong United Methodist, she was also active in a number of organizations, including United Methodist Women, Chapter "F" of P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Rebekah and Royal Neighbors Lodges. She took a very active interest in her family, music activities and community life. July 17, 1977, Mr. and Mrs. Jones observed their 60th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her husband, Glen M., one daughter Mrs. John A. Jones, Jr. of Arlington, Va., one son, Herbert L. Jones of Wimetka, Ill., 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Clark of Johnson, Kansas, and Mrs. Mayme Jacobsen of Denver, Colorado.

Services were held Monday, August 22, 1977, in the Moulton United Methodist Church, Moulton, Iowa. The Duley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Family members attending the services were Mrs. LaVerne E. Jones, Mesa, Ariz., her sons and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Jones, Glen and Clinton, Genoa, Nebr., Mrs. John A. Jones Jr. Arlington, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jones, Kimberly, Cynthia, Kevin, Winnetha, Ill., Michael Felz, Galesburg, Illinois.

Close relatives attending from a distance were Mrs. Mayme Jacobsen, Denver, Colo., a sister of Mrs. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whittlesey, Denver, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Siler, Pamona, Calif., Ilus W. Davis, Kansas City, Mrs. Helen Kloker, Elmhurst, Ill., Mrs. Lovelle Felt and and Robert, St. Louis, Mrs. Laura Spurgeon, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Jones and Mrs. Marie Hamilton all of Burlington.
