ETHEL M. HISSEM

Ethel M. Hissem, daughter of John Wesley and Ada Griest Brewer, was born March 30, 1897 near Douds and departed this life the evening of Tuesday, March 5, 1991 in the Long Term Care unit of Davis County Hospital, Bloomfield, at the age of 93.

She married Will Hissem February 17, 1915 near Douds. He died September 15, 1970.

Mrs. Hissem lived her life in Van Buren County, mainly in the Douds and Milton communities.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Milton.

Remaining to cherish her memory are a son, Ned and his wife, Grace of Redding, California, four daughters, Louise Wells and her husband, Clarence of Milton, Marie Gooden, Memphis, Missouri, Maxine Manske and her husband, Maynard of Milton, and Carol Boyd and her husband, Russell of Keosauqua, twenty grand-children, thirty-three great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Marie of Phoenix, Arizona, a sister-in-law, Helen Brewer, Minneapolis, Minnesota, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were four brothers, Lester, Van, Charles and Carroll Brewer, two sisters, Grace Fellows and Olive Johnston, a granddaughter, Judy Wells and a son-in-law, Kenneth Gooden.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9, 1991 at 11 A.M. in Grace United Methodist Church, Milton, with Rev. Kim Eanes officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. A memorial was established for her church.

Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
