Gilfillan Rites This AfternoonClarence D.N. Gilfillan, one of the founders of the Gilfillan Clinic in Bloomfield, died Friday in Pomona, Calif., at the age of 56.
Funeral services were this afternoon at the Bloomfield Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. John Beebout. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery here.
Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been hospital in Pomono about a month.
After the clinic was founded in 1946, he practiced here until 1957, when a heart attack forced him to give up the local practice. He moved in 1960 to Claremont, Calif., and since that time had served as medical director at the Pomona branch of the University of California.
"Dr. C.D.N.," as he was known, was a long time member of the Davis County Medical Society, the Iowa Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
He was the son of Homer J. and Clara Gilfillan, born January 1, 1906. He graduated in 1933 from the State University of Iowa college of medicine. He took internship and residency in surgery at French and Letterman hospitals, both of San Francisco, and specialized in surgery and orthopedics.
He practiced in Eldon and Fremont, then served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; a son, James, of San Francisco; and a daughter, Vicki, at home.
Other survivors include four brothers and three sisters, including Dr. Earl Gilfillan of Memphis, Mo., Dr. Edwin O. Gilfillan and Dr. Homer J. Gilfillan, both of Bloomfield, Dr. Harold Gilfillan of San Francisco, Mrs. Pauline Millstead of Flushing, New York, Mrs. Dorothy Mahannah and Miss Esther Gilfillan, both of Storm Lake.
Pallbearers were Donald W. Harris, Robert Boatman, Wayne Harris, Dr. J.R. Lofgren, Lowell Sullivan and Doyle Schmitter.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John R. Scheibe, Dr. Richard Schoonover, Dr. W.D. Haufe, Dr. James R. Mincks, Dr. Paul T. Meyers, Dr. Stanley R. Jaskunas, Chauncey Francis, Tony Zaputil, Edward Burchette, Lee Irvin, Ray Baumgarten, the Rev. K.C. Martin and Robert Weibenbach.
