Gun Wound Is Fatal

William Dawson Brown, Sr., 71, of 1340 Whitaker, died Monday from a 22-caliber pistol wound in his forehead, police said.

Officers said the wound was apparently self-inflicted.

Brown was discovered at 8 a.m. in his bedroom at the home he shares with Mr. and Mrs. James D. Welsh.

Officers said he was lying across a bed. An empty target pistol was found near the body, police said.

Mr. Brown was born Mar. 11, 1895, in Pulaski, Ia., the son of Samuel Burr and Maude Adeline Fordemwalt. Sept. 30, 1920, he married Alice Pauline Jeffrey. He was retired employe of the IAAP and was a member of the IOP Pistol and Rifle club and the National Rifle Assn.

Surviving: a son, William D. Brown, Jr., of Burlington; a daughter, Mrs. Earl Coppes of Burlington; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Moyes of Colfax, Wash., and Mrs. Naomi Price of Milton; two brothers, Donoval Brown of Milton, and Samuel Brown of Salix.

Services: Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Prugh's chapel, Dr. G. Dempster Yinger; Aspen Grove Cemetery.
