Ray Gares

The funeral service for Ray Gares, 71, of Houston, Texas, a Farmington native, was held Monday morning at Houston with burial in that city. Mr. Gares died Friday evening, Jan. 15, in a hospital at Houston.

He was born Jan. 19, 1899 in Clark County Missouri, the son of John William and Dora Frances Green Gares. He was reared in the Anson community and was a graduate of the Farmington High School.

He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Fort Madison and was later transferred to Amarillo, Texas. In later life he was a realtor and owner of a number of apartment houses in Houston.

Survivors include his widow Grace, and one daughter, Jennie Ozelle of Houston; four brothers, Joe Gares of Farmington, Glenn Gares of Bonaparte, George Gares of Kahoka, Mo., and Derrill Gares of Keokuk; two sisters survive, Mrs. Elwood Vance of Farmington and Mrs. Melvin Kaylor of Kahoka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Clymer, and one sister, Oletha Weaver.
