Fern C. Johnston

Fern Clark Johnston, son of Clark and Emma Brown Johnston, was born July 16, 1886 at Lebanon and departed this life Thursday, Jan. 14, 1971 at Ottumwa, at the age of 84.

He grew to manhood in the Lebanon community and was married on Dec. 25, 1907 to Olive Brewer. They farmed in the Lebanon, Stockport and Birmingham communities and moved to Libertyville in 1940, where Mr. Johnston worked as a carpenter until his retirement.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his widow; their son, Mark are his widow; their son, Mark of Libertyville, and daughter-in-law, Erma; four grandchildren, Carroll, Janice, Marlene and Tracey Johnston, and two great-grandchildren, Brent and Amy Johnston; a brother, Earl of Lebanon; other relatives and many friends. Three brothers and two ssiters preceded him in death.

Mr. Johnston was a member of the Libertyville United Methodist Church. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a good citizen and a faithful friend.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lebanon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Gilmore of the Libertyville Church and the Rev. Willis Grant of the Lebanon Church officiating. Mrs. Beryl Beeler was the pianist. Pall bearers were Kenneth Poling, Donald Philips, Harold Poling, Aaron Maddix, Frank Nelson and Virgil Booth. Interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
