George Holden

George Henry Holden, 82, of Bonaparte was found dead in his car at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 by his wife. The car was in Holden's small closed garage.

Dr. Dale House, Van Buren county medical examiner, said that it was an accidental death by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Holden had gone out to his garage to start the car to warm the motor and charge up the battery which he thought was low. Mrs. Holden heard him shut the motor off and when he didn't return to the house shortly, she went out to check. She called a neighbor, William Cloyd. Dr. J.O. Ewing and Dr. House were summoned.

Mr. Holden was born Nov. 22, 1888 in Royalston, Mass., the son of Emery and Carolyn Gerry Holden.

A retired farmer, he has been a resident of Bonaparte since 1959.

He married Adda Conrad on Dec. 27, 1915 in Mound Valley, Kansas.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sons, Henry of Keosauqua and Richard of Bonaparte; three sisters, Mrs. Mae Wheeler of Belchertown, Mass., Mrs. Helen Oliff of North Easton, Mass., and Mrs. Olive Nelson of Athol, Mass.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

The funeral service will be Thursday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Catcott Funeral Home, Keosauqua. The Rev. James Ford, pastor of the United Methodist church, Keosauqua, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pittsburg cemetery.
