MRS. MARY BAILEY

Mrs. Mary Bailey, 87, died Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 1970 at the Embassy Manor Nursing H0me at Newton, Iowa. She had made her home the past 21 years with her daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Eva) Rupe at Montrose until six weeks ago when she entered the home. She hasn't been well for a number of years.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Norton County, Kansas, Oct. 22, 1883, the daughter of George and Sarah Hootman Hendricks.

She was married to Charles Bailey on March 16, 1904 at the home of her parents in Birmingham, Iowa. There were 10 children.

She had united with the Birmingham Presbyterian Church in 1900 and later united with the Nazarene Church at Montrose.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Don Cecconi of Ottumwa, Mrs. Adreian Burnes of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Raymond Rupe of Montrose, Mrs. Dewey Heminger of Woodriver, Nebr., and Mrs. Wallace Cook of Norwalk, Iowa and one son, Dwight Bailey of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sons, Dwight and Charles, Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Glassford and Mrs. Ellen Brier.

She resumed her teaching career, after the death of her husband. She taught 17 years in Lee County and three in Van Buren County schools. She was a dedicated teacher to her pupils as well as her family. They were a sacred charge to her.

The body was taken to the Behner Funeral Home at Fairfield where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13 at 2:00 o'clock, the Rev. Carl Amos of the Nazarene Church of Montrose officiated. Charles T. Parish, Morning Sun, one of her Mt. Hamill school pupils, was soloist. Mrs. Carl D. Hopkirk of Mt. Hamill was organist. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham.

Mrs. Bailey lived as a resident in Mt. Hamill many years and taught seven or eight years in the school there.
