Mrs. J.C. Van Ness

Mrs. Laura Van Ness, 72, of Bonaparte, died Monday, Nov. 16, at 2:45 p.m. in Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua. She had been in failing health for one year.

She was born July 28, 1898 at Galesburg, Ill., the daughter of William and Emma Danielson Morehead.

She married J.C. Van Ness on Feb. 23, 1930 at Galesburg. He survives.

They moved to Bonaparte in 1951. A former school teacher, she taught at Galva and Galesburg, Ill. and taught at Bonaparte for 11 years.

Mrs. Van Ness was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church at Galesburg and the United Methodist church at Bonaparte, the W.S.C.S., the National Retired Teachers' Association and the Iowa Teachers Association.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Dean of Sperry, Ia.; one daughter, Mrs. Annalou Vigil of Olds, Iowa; one brother, Earl Morehead of Garden Grove, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. C.A. Hessler of Galesburg, Ill.; five grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 19, at 1:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Bonaparte. The Rev. Edward Maus will officiate. Burial will be at Abingdon, Iowa.

The body was transferred on Wednesday morning from Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home in Farmington to the Carl Wilson Reposing Home to Bonaparte to lie in state until time of service.
