Elmer G. Johnson

Funeral services for Mr. Elmer G. Johnson, 77, Hillsboro, were held on Sunday, October 11, at 2:30 p.m. from the Hillsboro Christian Church with Rev. Chester C. Werft officiating. Mr. Johnson departed this life Friday noon, October 9th at the Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua after a short illness.

Music was provided by Mrs. Wayne Ross, organist.

Casket escorts were Dean Countryman, Willis Davis, M.M. Doan, Sr., C.F. Hoaglin, Delbert Loving and Craig Smart.

Interment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery with arrangements by the Beatty-Jennings Chapels.

Mr. Johnson was born September 20, 1893 at Stronghurst, Ill. the son of William and Sophia L. Carlson Johnson.

On October 9, 1912 he was married to Bertha Guthrie.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church. He was a Hillsboro barber the past 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, two sons; Dale, Ottumwa and Richard, Mt. Ayr, and one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Margaret) Page, Hillsboro, one brother, Fred, Ottumwa, and one sister, Maude Bryson, Winfield, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

His parents, 8 brothers, 2 sisters and one grandchild preceded him in death.
