Amy F. Ward

Amy F. Ward, 92, the daughter of James and Sarah Dean McCracken was born near Bonaparte, Iowa on Jan. 26. 1878 and departed this life on June 15, 1970 at the Van Buren County Memorial hospital at Keosauqua.

She was married to Noah E. Ward on Jan. 26, 1901. To this union were born three sons and three daughters.

She spent her entire life in the Bonaparte vicinity with the exception of a six year period in which she lived in Oklahoma. She was a member of the Bonaparte Baptist church.

"Grandma" as she was known by many, was a lover of the great outdoors. She was happiest when working with mother nature, especially with her flowers.

She leaves to mourn, one son, Alva of Bonaparte; three daughters, Mrs. Hugh (Tina) Matheson and Mrs. Hazel McIntosh of Keosauqua and Mrs. Karl (Mary) Willits of Bonaparte; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Margaret W. Ward of Chicago. Also 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, James in 1960 and an infant son. Also by her parents, two brothers and five sisters.

The funeral service was held at the Bonaparte Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 17 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Gerald Ogden officiating. Burial was in Thompson Cemetery, southwest of Bonaparte.
