Rex Koonts

Owen (Rex) Koonts, 76, died at 8:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, where he had been a patient since Dec. 3.

The son of Isaac and Clara McComas Koonts, he was born Oct. 20, 1893 in Van Buren County. On Oct. 28, 1914 he married Irene Brown at Keosauqua. They lived in Ringgold County for three years and later farmed in the Lebanon community near Cantril until retiring and moving to Cantril in 1961.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Retson of Keosauqua; two daughters, Mrs. LaVon Hannam of Keosauqua and Mrs. Berneil Beal of Dayton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and one sister, Miss Allie Koonts of Pontiac, Ill.

He was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church where the funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Everett Beal, son-in-law of Mr. Koonts, of Dayton, Ohio, and the Rev. Willis Grant, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, is in charge of arrangements.
