Mrs. Alice Mathies

Mrs. Alice E. Mathies, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 11, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Woodrow, northwest of Birmingham.

She was born near Birmingham on Feb. 11, 1888, the daughter of David and Laura Taylor Ramsey. She was married to A. Roy Mathies on Dec. 18, 1909; he died April 30, 1931.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Woodrow of Birmingham; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Iva Mercer of Packwood. One son and three brothers also preceded her in death.

The service was held Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at Burch Funeral Home with the Rev. Millard Marshall officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
