Mrs. Refa Butts

Refa June, daughter of W.A. and Emma Chapman Packer was born June, 1887, in Bonaparte, Ia., and died suddenly at her home in Hollywood, California, at 6:00 P.M. October 2, 1969, aged 82 years, 3 months and 28 days.

On Feb. 14, 1918, at El Cajon, Calif., she was united in marriage with Edward B. Butts. To this union were born 3 children, Betty, now Mrs. Nino Carbe of Glendale, Calif., William of Los Angeles and Emma Louise Pratt, who died in Nov., 1955.

Others preceding her in death were her husband, Oct. 1, 1928, 1 daughter, her parents, her brother Earl, and one great-grandchild.

Surviving are her daughter, son, one sister, Ethel Packer of Hollywood, 8 grandchildren and a number of cousins and many friends.

Her early life was spent in Bonaparte where she attended elemntary(err) and high school and graduated with the class of 1906. While in this community, she was a member of the Bonaparte Presbyterian Church and took part in the activities there.

Since moving to California she has shared her talent by singing in her church choir as long as she was physically able to do so.

Memorial services were held at Pierce Brothers Funeral Home in Hollywood, on Monday, Oct. 6, 1969.

A committal service was held Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. in the Bonaparte cemetery with the Rev. Levi Winfrey officiating.

Mrs. Carbe arrived Sunday evening to make final arrangements for the interment of her mothers ashes.

Many friends and acquaintances are sallened by Refa's sudden death.
