Mrs. Rose M. Mathews

Mrs. Rose M. Mathews, 80, of Farmington RFD died Friday, Sept. 12, at 2:35 a.m. en route to Sacred Heart Hospital, Ft. Madison. Death was sudden.

She was born March 20, 1889 in Van Buren Township, Lee County, the daughter of Henry M. and Bernice S. Kellogg Richey.

She married Harry J. Mathews on June 3, 1907 at her home southwest of Donnellson. He died Dec. 8, 1962. She was a lifelong resident of Lee County and was a member of the Embury United Methodist church.

Surviving are three sons, Keith of Farmington RFD, Donald E. of Baltimore, Maryland; and Lloyd of Postville; a sister, Mrs. Susie Wirsig of Donnellson; a brother, Henry Richey of Keokuk; and seven grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

The funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the Embury United Methodist church with the Rev. Charles McNeeley officiating. Burial was in the Embury cemetery.

Miller's Home for funerals in Donnellson was in charge of arrangements.
