Elmer D. Schafer

Elmer Dale Schafer, son of Charlie and Iva Dickinson Schafer was born June 6, 1900 at Richland, Iowa and died at his home in Milton Aug. 22, 1969 at 3:30 p.m.

After spending several years of his childhood in southern Missouri, he came to Iowa while yet a boy. On Jan. 28, 1920, he was married to Florence R. Howard. To this union six children, four sons and two daughters, were born.

He spent about 18 years in Chicago working for railroad and truck freight firms. The remainder of his life has been spent in this area as a farmer.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother; one sister; one son, and three grandchildren.

Surviving are his widow Florence; three sons, Charles of Cantril, Howard of Fairfield and Dean of Chicago; two daughters, Estalene (Mrs. Charles) Runquist of Aurora, Ill. and Jean (Mrs. Karl) Simmons of Hinckley, Ill.; 28 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Milton with the Rev. Herbert E. Phillips officiating. Interment was in McDowell Cemetery, northeast of Fairfield. Wellborn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
