Allen B. Nelson

Allen B. Nelson, 71, died at his home at 5 a.m. Sunday, May 11.

He had fallen from a loading dock at Philco-Ford Corp. on April 22 and was released from Jefferson County Hospital on May 7. His death was unexpected.

Born May 15, 1897, in Birmingham, he was the son of Meldon W. and Anna Anderson Nelson. His marriage to Letha Pearl Cupp took place May 1, 1923, in Ottumwa. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion and the Christian Church. He had been employed at Philo-Ford almost 40 years.

Surviving are his widow; two sons, Rex of Burlington and Robert A. of Fairfield; two daughters, Mrs. Steward Hilterbrand of Warren, Mich., and Mrs. Randall Bonar of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Ben of Sequim, Wash. and Sylvester of Birmingham; and three sisters, Beatrice Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif., Annetta Nelson of Birmingham, and Mrs. Elvin Edwards of Fairfield.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 at Raymond Funeral Home, Fairfield. The Rev. Ned Gillum officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
