Harlan Heckart

Harlan Heckart, 69, died at the Ottumwa Hospital in Ottumwa at 5:18 p.m. Sunday, April 6.

The son of Elias and Elizabeth Kirkendall Heckart, he was born April 11, 1899, in Woodward County, Okla., on Oct. 26, 1940, he was married to Marian Haney.

Supervisors include his widow; three daughters, Alice of St. Charles, Mo., Frances of Ames, and Carol, at home; and two sisters, Mrs. E.E. Jackson of Carlisle and Mrs. J.E. Ferguson of Danville, Ark.

Heckart had spent his life farming in the Douds and Selma areas. He was a member of Starlight Lodge 350, IOOF, of Selma; Douds Temple 104, Pythian Sisters; and Christ Methodist Church, at Douds.

He was a director of the Farmers & Traders Savings Bank at Douds, the Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. of Birmingham, and the Leando Cemetery Association.

The funeral was Tuesday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. G. Basil Tadlock of Ames officiating. Burial was in Leando Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund or the Knights of Pythias Kenderline Fund.
