Mrs. Ruth Sargeant

Mrs. Ruth Sargeant, 40, of Farmington, died Monday, April 7, at 8:10 a.m. in Sacred Heart hospital, Fort Madison after a lengthy illness.

She was born July 25, 1928 at Hoisington, Kans., the daughter of Alvin and Mary Byers Mayer.

On Dec. 31, 1959 at Farmington she married Roy O. Sargeant. He died Jan. 29, 1967.

A lifelong resident of Farmington, she was owner and operator of Sargeant's Sundries at Farmington and was deputy auditor of Van Buren County. She was a member of the Farmington Methodist church and was vice president of the Pioneer Historical Society.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mary Mayer of Farmington; a brother, Donald Mayer of Fort Madison; uncles, aunts, and two nieces.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her father, Alvin Mayer, and one daughter in infancy.

The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Farmington Methodist church with the Rev. Harold Schirm officiating. Burial was in Greenglade cemetery. Miller's Home for Funerals in Farmington was in charge of arrangements.
