John O. Halbasch

John Oscar Halbasch, 89, of Stockport, died Thursday, Feb. 20, at 12:30 p.m. in Van Buren County Memorial hospital, Keosauqua, where he had been a patient since Feb. 3, 1967.

Born Jan. 16, 1880 near Franklin, the son of Martin and Margaret Weible Halbasch, he spent his childhood near Franklin and spent most of his life in Lee county. He moved to the Stockport community in 1941.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Halbasch was a retired farmer.

He married Esther B. Kemp at Burlington on Aug. 31, 1904. She died Sept. 26, 1956.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Fern Klug of Farmington; two sons, W. Ervin Halbasch of Farmington rural route, and J. Orin Halbasch of rural route Stockport; and one grandson, John Klug.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, seven sisters, three brothers, and one grandson on May 13, 1959.

The funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 24, at 1:30 p.m. in Miller's Home for Funerals at Donnellson with the Rev. Kenneth Harden officiating. Burial was in Hillsboro cemetery.
