Rex Nixon

Rex Nixon, son of Lonzo and Alice Klise Nixon, was born Sept. 22 1896, in Harrisburg Township, near Utica, Iowa, and departed this life on March 12, 1969, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 72 years, 5 months, 20 days. He was the next to youngest of a family of 11 children.

He was married to Martha Esther Mitchell on October 16, 1920, at Chariton, Iowa. They lived in Bonaparte their entire married life, the last 45 years in the present home. Two children were born to this union, a daughter, Susie May, and a son, Bernard Reid, both of Burlington.

Mr. Nixon was a retired glove cutter, who had been employed at the Bonaparte branch of Fairfield Glove Company for nearly 43 years. He started to work there August 17, 1920, and retired April 27, 1963.

He was a member of the Bonaparte Baptist Church, a World War I veteran, and a member of the Bonaparte Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

Left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Esther of Bonaparte; daughter, Mrs. Susie May Stevens and her husband, Roger of Burlington; son, Bernard and his wife, Dorothy, also of Burlington; brother, Vern, of Fairfield; 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, March 15, at 3:00 P.M. in the Bonaparte Baptist Church, Reverend Gerald Ogden officiating, with music by Reverend Levi Winfrey, soloist, and Mrs. Dean Burns, accompanist. Interment in Bonaparte Cemetery, with Masonic rites there. Millers' Home for Funerals, was in charge.
