Mrs. Mary E. Couch

Mary Elizabeth Couch, 73, died at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at 3:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, following a lingering illness.

The daughter of John and Ella Godown Robinson, she was born Nov. 12, 1895 in Davis County. On Dec. 27, 1937, she was married to Thomas A. Couch, who preceded her in death.

With the exception of a few years her entire life was spent on the family home farm, northeast of Milton. She moved into Milton with her father and brother in 1952. Her father died in 1954 and her brother Wilbur in 1964. Mary cared for aged people in her home until her health failed and was forced to close her home and go to the Davis Nursing Home in Keosauqua, where she made her home until the time of her death. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are three step-daughters, Norma Lee Plude and Maurine Fries of Des Moines and Madolyn McKinsey of Baxter; and one stepson, William Couch of DeWitt.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Milton Christian Church with James D. McKean officiating. Burial was in Sunnyside cemetery. Wellborn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
