Sarah Jane Rankin

Mrs. Sarah Jane Rankin, 87, of Farmington, died Saturday, Jan. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Max (Hazel) Messer of Farmington, with whom she made her home the past three years.

She had been a failing health for some time, seriously ill one week.

She was born Sept. 7, 1881 near Bonaparte, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Tompkins House.

On Oct. 19, 1904 at Bonaparte, she married Leslie Clyde Rankin. He died in 1963. She was a lifelong resident of Van Buren county.

Mrs. Rankin was a member of the Story Chapel Methodist.

Besides her daughter, Mrs. Messer, she is survived by a grandson, Marvin Messer of Farmington; a granddaughter, Mrs. Earl (Betty Lu) Thronson and a great-grandson, Don Rae of Galena, Alaska.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, and one grandson.

The funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. in Miller's Home for Funerals in Farmington with the Rev. Harold Schirm officiating. Burial was in Thompson cemetery, west of Farmington.
