Mrs. Lydia Lopez

Mrs. Lydia Lopez, 42, a high school Spanish teacher in Mt. Pleasant, died at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, in University hospitals, Iowa City, the third victim of a two-car accident Nov. 16, nine miles north of Donnellson at the intersection of a county road and Highway 218.

Also dead as a result of the accident are Kenneth Lamborn, 43, of Farmington, who died in Sacred Heart hospital, Fort Madison, a short time after being admitted, and Matilda Curi, 65, mother of Mrs. Lopez, who died two days following the accident.

Lydia Curi Lopez was born Jan. 30, 1926 in Havana, Cuba, the daughter of Jose and Matilda Curi. She came to the United States on Oct. 26, 1961.

She was married to Dr. Thomas Lopez of Farmington.

Surviving are the father; two daughters, Lydia Maria, 8, and Mary Liane, 6, both of Farmington; three brothers, Marcela of New York City, Michel of Clearwater, Fla. and Alfredo, Havana, Cuba.

The funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. in the St. Alphonsus Catholic church in Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. Albert Goetzman officiating. Crane-Ewart and Young funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
