MATILDA AUSTIN

Matilda Landreth, daughter of William and Sarah Good Landreth, was born October 26, 1884 in Washington County in upper East Tennessee and departed this life October 15, 1968 in the Golden Acres Home in Dallas, Texas where she had been a resident since going there January 26, 1966, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 19 days. She was the last member of her family, having been preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

On April 27, 1899 she was married to James C. Austin who preceded her in death December 30, 1965.

She moved with her husband to Iowa in the spring of 1902 and lived here continually since then until going to the home in Texas.

To this union ten children were born: Reuben of Keosauqua, Iowa; John who died in infancy; Florence, Mrs. H.P. Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; Mabel, Mrs. D.W. Forbes of Denver, Colorado; Raymond of Des Moines, Iowa; Mary, Mrs. W.J. Morrison of West Bend, Iowa; Orpha, Mrs. F.P. Morgan of Dallas, Texas; Beulah, Mrs. Earl Beck of Bettendorf, Iowa; and Kenneth of Des Moines, Iowa. Surviving also are 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was a wonderful Mother and a dedicated Christian who never wavered in her faith that all would work out for the best and that a way would be provided to meet all needs. Her life was an inspiration to all who knew her.

A Memorial Service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the Spurlock Funeral Chapel in Garland, Texas. The body was then brought to the Catcott Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
