Alonzo Chloe Cox 80, of 409 - 34th St., N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa died the morning of April 10, 1974 following a short illness. Formerly of Cantril, Iowa, he had been a Cedar Rapids resident for 34 years.

Born April 9, 1894, in Van buren County, Iowa, he was married to Sadie L. Winters on December 5, 1912 in Memphis, MO. He was a master model maker at Allis Chalmers and LaPlant Choate Company [in Cedar Rapids] for 21 years, retiring in 1962. He was a member of the Retired Mens Club of Allis Chalmers.

Surviving are his wife, Sadie; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie (Newell) Clark, Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Ethelyn (Frank) Downing of Des Moines; a son Dick Cox of Slidell, Texas; 9 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Memorial services were held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 1974 with Rev. Clifton W. Ellerbeck of Kenwood Park United Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery [Cedar Rapids, IA].

Chloe Cox is my great uncle, his parents are Alonzo and Mary Elvira (Hales) Cox resided in Van Buren Cty., Iowa. Also see the Biography Section on information about Chloe Cox on his inventions in the late 1930's and 1940, as he was Maintenance Shop Foreman for the Van Buren County Road Division, before moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
