EMERY R. GIRE

Emery Raymond Gire, 56 of Fairfield died Monday evening, July 25 at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, about 10 minutes after arrival at the hospital by ambulance. He had been in ill health for some time and was a patient at Jefferson County Hospital shortly before being transferred to Iowa City.

He was born Jan. 9, 1910 in Jefferson County, to William and Dema Wiley Cox, who survives, took place on July 28, 1951 at Kahoka, Mo.

He was a previous resident of Keosauqua and had lived in Fairfield for the past 14 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include three sons, William and Stanley, both of Ottumwa and Robert in the Army; two daughters, Dema and Connie, both at home; five step-daughters, Mrs. Patsy Duff of Rock Falls, Mrs. Louise House of Keosauqua, Mrs. Edith Richardson and Mrs. Marjorie Miller, both of Bellflower, Calif., Mrs. Joyce Simmons of Seattle, Wash.; two step-sons, Robert and Joseph Winters, both in the Navy; 19 grandchildren; one brother, Stanley E. Gire of Douds; three sisters, Mrs. June Leathers of Fairfield, Mrs. Wilma Hilliary and Mrs. Helen White, both of Galesburg, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 28 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield at 2 p.m. with Rev. Oscarson of the Free Methodist church in charge. Burial was at Purdom cemetery in Keosauqua.
