MRS. MABEL EVANS

The following obituary of Mrs. Mabel Evans was sent to us by Mary Jane Watts. Several years ago Mrs. Evans and her family resided near the Keosauqua vicinity (near Pittsburg). Mrs. Evans will be remembered as the daughter-in-law of the late Clark and Mary Watts Evans, pioneer residents of Van Buren County.

Mrs. Mabel Evans, 79, 704 E. Adams, Fairfield, died Sunday, July 31 at 3 p.m. at the Jefferson County Hospital. She had suffered a fractured hip in a fall June 20.

Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. D.O. Van Dyne officiating. Burial was in Chapel Hill Garden Cemetery in Des Moines.

Mrs. Evans was born June 2, 1887 in Jefferson County, the daughter of John F. and Mary Maries Droz. She was married to George G. Evans, Aug. 5, 1904. He preceded her in death in 1959.

Mrs. Evans is survived by the following children: Mary Evans, Fairfield; Mrs. Nellie Wyse, Burbank, Calif., Mrs. Eva Pettijohn, Des Moines; William Evans, Lakeland, Minn.; and George Evans, Santa Barbara, Calif.

Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Evans was a member of the Baptist Church. Nine brothers and sisters are deceased.
