Stella Alexander-Cass, daughter of George and Josephine Alexander, was born in Van Buren County, near Bonaparte, Iowa, on April 3rd, 1878. She died very suddenly of acute intestinal obstruction, in the Fairfield Hospital on July 6th, 1922, at the age of 44 years, 3 months and 3 days.
She was united in marriage to John Marshall Cass April 25th, 1900. Her husband preceded her in death on November 13th, 1903, also one brother, Orville, aged 2 years.
She leaves to mourn her loss: Her father, mother, four sisters and six brothers. Mrs. Jessie Perkins, Marengo, Ohio; Mrs. Blanche Cass, of Bentonsport, Iowa; Mrs. Effie Cross, of Farmington, Iowa; Mrs. Nellie Cross, of Farmington, Iowa; Charlie of Bentonsport, Iowa; Manley, George and Joseph, of Stockport, Iowa; Clyde of Farmington, Iowa and Livingston, of Lynn, Mass., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cass united with the Free Baptist church at Utica, Iowa, in the year of 1909, and afterwards moved her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church in this city, and where she remained an active member until her death.
She was a member of the Stockport Rebekah Lodge No. 145, doing her duty as secretary. She was to have been installed as their treasurer on the night of her death. She was an efficient operator at the Union-Telephone office for more than two years, and was just having her two weeks’ vacation. Always kind and ready to answer calls, one can hear nothing but praise in all of her work. She was always ready to give assistance where it was needed, in sickness, sorrow or trouble of any kind. No one can estimate the value of such a life in a community. Her life was a beautiful one, always a smile and a helping hand for everyone. She was a patient sufferer and ready to meet her maker. Almost her last request was to take care of her folks. She will be greatly missed at Central, in the community and in her home.
The funeral took place form the Methodist Episcopal church in this city on Sunday afternoon, July 9th, the pastor, Rev. G. W. Barber, conducting the service and her body was laid to rest in the Bentonsport cemetery.
