James Hurley

Funeral service for James Hurley, 62, of Rural route Mt. Sterling, Ia., was held Monday, April 4 at 2 p.m. in the Farmington Church of the Nazarene. The Reverends J. Bryan Jones and C.C. Swalwell officiated. Burial was in Ottumwa cemetery. Millers Home for Funerals in Farmington was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hurley was killed in an accident on his farm Friday, April 1, at 6:45 p.m.

He was born Feb. 14, 1904 at Oskaloosa, the son of George and Lucy Shaffer Hurley.

On May 31, 1929 at Ottumwa, he married Orlee Spilman, who survives.

He lived 32 years on teh farm 7 miles southwest of Keosauqua moving there from Ottumwa.

Mr. Hurley was a Salvation Army Captain. He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Farmington.

Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, Robert James Hurley, of Muskegon, Mich. and a daughter, Mrs. Dale (Harriett) Waters, of Mt. Pleasant, Ia.; two brothers, Vern Hurley of Los Angeles, Calif., and Fred Hurley of Birmingham, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Nichols of Davenport and Mrs. Nellie Allen of the state of Missouri; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George.
